ABOUT THE CRAZY COW
The idea for Top Tactics was born on the River Hamble in the south of the United Kingdom, where young Optimist sailor Evie Rogerson was training and dreaming of taking part in international regattas. She wanted a way to practise racing at home — to visualise the start line, the marks, and all the situations that happen out on the water.
So she created her own little kit of boats, marks, and course cards to help her think through race strategies. What started as a homemade tool on the living room floor quickly became something much bigger: a unique coaching set that sailors and coaches everywhere could use to make racing tactics clear, simple, and fun.
WHY “THE CRAZY COW”?
When Evie was 7 years old and just learning to sail, she was nervous about going out on the water. Her first sailing instructor, Charlotte, very kindly gave her a small cuddly cow to take with her for courage. That thoughtful gesture made a lasting impression.
Since then, “The Crazy Cow” has always been part of Evie’s sailing journey —
whether it’s the little toy itself or her Optimist dinghy, which she named after it. The cow became a symbol of confidence, fun, and friendship on the water.
